A New record was set for prices achieved for personalised number plates recently when a businessman paid £440,000 for the registration number F 1. Previously owned by Essex council it was the first registration number ever issued by them and had been used on various limousines owned by the council. The number is destined to be used on the businessmans Mclaren Mercedes SLR which cost less than the number plate. It is somewhat surprising that McLaren themselves were not interested in the registration number as they race in Formula 1 and have a car called the F1. Essex council intends to spend the money raised improving training for young drivers.
